Staunton: City Council to begin FY20 budget review

staunton virginiaStaunton City Manager Steve Owen will present the 2020 fiscal year proposed budget to City Council during its regular meeting Thursday, March 28, kicking off the budget review process.

City Council will meet over the next month to examine and discuss the budget in its entirety. The public is welcome to attend budget work sessions and participate in public hearings on the budget (see dates and times listed below). The council is scheduled to vote on the budget during its regular meeting on April 25.

Following Thursday’s presentation, the FY20 proposed budget will be available to view online, and a hard copy will be available in the city manager’s office on the third floor of City Hall, 116 W. Beverley St. and in the reference area at the Staunton Public Library, 1 Churchville Ave.

Unless otherwise noted, meetings about the budget will occur on the following dates in the Caucus Room at City Hall:

Thursday, April 4*

  • 5:30 p.m., budget work session

Thursday, April 11

  • 5:30 p.m., budget work session during regularly scheduled meeting
  • 7:30 p.m., public hearing on the proposed budget (Location: Council Chambers)

Thursday, April 18*

  • 5:30 p.m., budget work session

Thursday, April 25

  • 5:30 p.m., budget work session during regularly scheduled meeting
  • 7:30 p.m., consideration and adoption of the budget (Location: Council Chambers)

*If these meetings are canceled, they will be announced and noted here in advance.
