Staunton Augusta Art Center to unveil new exhibition

The Staunton Augusta Art Center announces a new, collaborative art exhibition titled Art: The Path to Recovery which opens Sunday, May 6, 1-3 P.M., in the second floor lecture hall/gallery of the R. R. Smith Center for History and Art at 20 S. New Street in historic downtown Staunton.  The juried artwork is by consumers of mental health services.   

The exhibition is a collaboration among the Staunton Augusta Art Center, Mental Health America of Augusta, and Western State Hospital.  Carol Sease, M.S. O.T. R/L, M.S. Art Education, is serving as the juror and primary curator of the exhibit.  She will offer a brief lecture about the therapeutic role of art in the recovery of mental illness at 1:30 P.M. during the course of the Opening Reception on May 6.

In recognition of Mental Health Month, the exhibition will be open to the public May 6-May 30.  Regular gallery hours are 10 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Monday –Friday (closed at 3:00 on May 10 and May 17), 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. Saturday, and 1:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday.  There is no admission fee to visit the galleries or to attend the Opening.  For further information, call the Staunton Augusta Art Center at 540-885-2028.
