Staunton Augusta Art Center board member Scott Ballin is helping orchestrate a Judgment of Virginia, modeled after the 1976 Judgment of Paris, a renowned competition between French and American wines.
The Judgment of Virginia, a competition between French and Virginia wines followed by a reception of hors d’oeuvres and wine tastings for guests, will occur on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2-6 p.m., in the R. R. Smith Center for History and Art, 20 S. New Street in historic Downtown Staunton.
The third annual Thomas Jefferson Wine Event will include an impressive group of seven nationally known sommeliers, wine critics, historians, and writers who will serve as master of ceremonies, jurors, and guest speakers during the course of the afternoon. Several renowned authors will be participating in the event and signing books. Gabriele Rausse, considered the “father of the Virginia wine industry” will speak and receive a special award of recognition.
Tickets to the event are $50 per person and are available at the Wine Cellar (8 Byers Street, Staunton), the Smith Center Museum Store (20 S. New Street, Staunton), or by calling the Staunton Augusta Art Center (540-885-2028).
Guests are welcome to stay the entire four hours or drop in; the reception will occur from 4-6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the mission of the Staunton Augusta Art Center, a 501(C)3 non-profit organization which 1) offers opportunities for the creation and appreciation of the visual arts to people of all ages, residents, and visitors to the area and which 2) supports artists by providing a variety of opportunities for them to exhibit and sell their work and to teach.
