Staunton Augusta Art Center announces fall art classes

saaclogoThe Staunton Augusta Art Center announces its offerings of art classes for children and adults, October-December 2013.  All classes will be held in the R. R. Smith Center for History and Art, 20 S. New Street, Staunton, VA  24401.  Pre-registration is required no later than one week before the start date for each class.  Register by calling the Art Center at 540-885-2028.

 

Classes for Adults and High School Students:

Brushing up with Watercolor, adults, beginner to intermediate

Wednesdays 10A.M.-Noon, October 9-November 13

Work at your own pace to improve your watercolor skills related to topics such as drawing, controlling the amount of water and paint used, wet-in-wet painting, creating texture, laying in washes, fixing mistakes and problem areas, using masking fluid correctly, softening edges, using different types of brushes, etc.

Finished pieces will surely be fit for framing at the workshop on November 16.

$160/$140 members

Students furnish materials from a provided list

Silk Scarf Painting, French serti method, high school and adults, beginner

Saturday, November 9, 10A.M.-2P.M.

Experience the fun of “painting” images on silk by controlling the flow of the dye (serti means enclosing or “fencing in”).  One does not need to have art experience to create beautiful results and just in time for the holidays to adorn yourself or give your creation as a gift.

$85/$75 members and all materials are included

Framing Artwork, high school and adults, beginner

Saturday, November 16, 2-5P.M.

Bring an 8” x 10” frame and a piece of 5” x 7” artwork or your favorite photograph of that size and learn the basics of matting and framing.  Think how much you will save in the future knowing this skill!

$50/$45 members, all other materials including cream mat, foam core, paper backing, wire, and hooks are included.  Students bring 8” x 10” frame and one piece to frame.

Saturday, December 14, 2-5P.M.

Just in time to decorate for the holidays or give a special gift, learn how to create stained glass ornaments.

$50/$45 members and all materials are included

Saturday, October 19, 10A.M.-Noon

Where did the headless horseman’s head go?  Just in time for Halloween, create your own 3-D monster, pirate, gypsy, superhero, beauty queen, or whatever you like using a wide variety of media.

$20/$18 members and all materials are provided
