State Police: Woman on Virginia interstate injured after gunfire strikes her vehicle

A woman driver on Interstate 85 this afternoon in Dinwiddie County was travelling northbound when a truck passed her, and she came under gunfire.

The victim, a 45-year-old female from Cheverly, Md., was not hit but received superficial cuts from the broken glass. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Virginia State Police, the shooting occurred around 1 p.m. at the 51-mile marker on the interstate.

Her 2009 Kia Rondo was traveling north when it was struck by suspected gunfire of someone in an older model brown pickup truck.

The victim’s name was not released.

This incident remains under investigation.
