State Police: Virginia man dead after truck hits two trees after running off road

A Virginia man is dead following an accident on Route 460 in Nottoway on Wednesday morning.

James Bernard Franklin, 46, of Petersburg, died at the scene.

A passenger, Margaret Jones, 49, of Nottoway, was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The single-vehicle accident occurred at 9:53 a.m. on westbound 460, approximately 1/4 mile east of Cellar Creek Road in Nottoway, according to a report from Virginia State Police.

Franklin was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 truck when it ran off the road to the left, struck a tree, spun around and struck a second tree.

According to VSP, Franklin was not wearing his seatbelt. His passenger, Jones, was wearing her seatbelt.

This crash remains under investigation.
