State Police responds to aircraft incident in Louisa County

Virginia State Police Trooper B.J. Dibble responded Saturday morning (August 24, 2013) to an emergency landing of an aircraft in Louisa County. After about 15 minutes of having taken off from the Louisa  County/Freeman Field Airport, the single-engine Stinson Voyager aircraft began sputtering and having problems.

Its pilot, Peter Stetson, 66, of Fairfield, Indiana, tried to return to the airport but was unable to make it in time. Instead the plane made an emergency landing in an open field near the 5900 block of Roundabout Road in Louisa County. Stetson was not injured. The incident remains under investigation. The FAA was notified and is investigating, as well.

Stetson’s flight was to be from Louisa County/Freeman Field Airport to Indiana.
