State Police: One dead in crash inside Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel

One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 eastbound inside the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel early this morning.

The preliminary investigation shows a Nissan Altima appeared to have blown a tire and became disabled inside the tunnel at approximately 2:38 a.m.

The Altima was struck by the driver of an Acura MDX who was travelling at a high rate of speed, according to Virginia State Police.

The driver of the disabled Altima was ejected and died at the scene. The name of the deceased driver has not been released.

The driver of the Acura was taken to an area hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
