policecar3Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Staunton man Saturdayafternoon (Aug. 10) in Augusta County. At 4:06 p.m., Trooper G.D. McCoy Jr. was called to the scene at the intersection of Routes 662 and 604.

A 2007 Yamaha moped was northbound on Route 604 when it pulled across Route 662 and into the path of an eastbound 1995 Toyota pickup truck. The pickup swerved to the left and braked in an attempt to avoid the moped, but the two vehicles collided. The operator of the moped, Marshall L. Justice Jr., 47, of Staunton, Va., was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Justice was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the pickup truck, Richard W. Trippeer, 35, of Greenville, Va., was not injured in the crash. Trippeer was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
