State Police: Connecticut couple in fiery crash on I-95, husband dead

Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle fiery crash that resulted in one fatality Sunday morning on Interstate 95.

At 9:08 a.m., police dispatch received a report of a vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of I-95, just north of Lewistown Road.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van veered off the right side of the highway, struck several trees and caught fire.

The driver, Tiffany Jerome Benincasa, 53, of Greenwich, Conn., was found outside the vehicle with minor injuries. She was treated at the scene by Hanover Fire and Rescue.

The passenger, identified as her husband, James D. Benincasa, 60, also of Greenwich, was located deceased inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

The crash remains under investigation.
