A 23-year-old man is dead following an accident on Route 221 in Bedford County on Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:15 p.m.

Isaac Graham Cyrus, of Bedford, died at the scene, approximately one-tenth of a mile from Casaloma Road. Cyrus was not wearing a seatbelt.

A 70-year-old man, who has not been identified, was responsible for the accident, according to Virginia State Police.

His 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north when it crossed the center line and sideswiped a 2017 Ford Explorer and then struck a 2007 Nissan Altima head on. The man was not wearing his seatbelt and was injured and transported to the hospital. Alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to VSP.

Cyrus was the driver of the Nissan that was hit head on.

The 63-year-old woman driving the Ford Explorer was also injured and was transported to the hospital.

Both of the vehicles struck in the crash were traveling south.

Charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
