A 22-year-old driver led Virginia State Police on a pursuit after an initial stop on Interstate 95 southbound this morning in Stafford County.

Zaire L. Davis, 22, has been charged with eluding, grand larceny, possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession with intent to distribute drugs.

Two passengers were released without charges.

At 1:56 a.m., Virginia State Police attempted to stop a Chevrolet Suburban for speeding at the 137-mile marker. The driver initially stopped, but then sped away, and a pursuit was initiated.

The driver of the Suburban exited Interstate 95 southbound at exit 133, and the pursuit continued onto Route 17 southbound.

Stafford County Sheriff deputies joined as the pursuit moved to Route 17.  The pursuit continued along White Oak Road, Ringgold Road and Brooke Road, where the suspect vehicle crashed.

The suspect driver then attempted to run from the scene on foot and was taken into custody a short time later by Stafford County K9 deputies with the help of a Stafford County Sheriff’s Office drone.

Virginia State Police recovered a stolen firearm, drugs, money and cell phones from the scene.

There were no reported injuries.
