Virginia State Police: Smyth County accident claims life of Chilhowie man

A Chilhowie man involved in a single-vehicle crash on Sunday has died, according to Virginia State Police.

Timmie J. Stokes, 68, suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.  Stokes died due to his injuries on Monday.

The fatal crash occurred Jan. 5 at 12:30 p.m. on Loves Mill Road in Smyth County.

Stokes was heading northbound on Loves Mill Road near its intersection with Route 107, when he ran off of the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Stokes was wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation. It is unknown if weather played a factor in the accident.
