The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of April, is exhibiting the works of artist/illustrator, Bruce Bunch. His artwork, brought to life using watercolors, graphite or pen and ink, reflects his love of outdoor lore and a wildlife theme. With a watercolor brush in one hand and a fly rod in the other, he is often seen camping in the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
During his 35 year career in the corporate world of advertising, this domestic and international award winning artist has won numerous honors including the Queen’s Award for Industry (UK), Cleo and EFFIE for giving birth to the Michelin Baby ads. The Roper Mountain Science Center and Boy Scouts of America are only a few of the institutions that have commissioned work from Bunch. In addition, he has conducted workshops or lectured for Yale, Kent State, Lock Haven State, Penn State, and South Carolina State Park Service, to list a few. Bunch’s recent works give him the freedom to create a natural world reborn through the eyes of the artist. An Opening Reception will be held April 5, 5:00 – 7:00pm and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artist after he speaks briefly about his work.
In the Hallway Gallery artwork by Waynesboro and Augusta County high school senior art students will be exhibited. Many of the students will be continuing their study of art in a college setting. In the Member’s Gallery artwork will reflect a theme of water or fish which is a part of the celebration of the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival in the River City on April 21 and 22.
Shenandoah Valley Art Center offers, for members of the center and community, many workshops and classes taught by professional artists. Art classes offered in April are Perspective Drawing taught by Jeane Custin each Wednesday from 1 – 3pm, Clay Birdhouses/Fairy Houses taught by Donna Kincaid April 21, 12 – 4pm, Photoshop Basics taught by Corey Erickson, April 18 and 25, 3 – 5pm, and SAK, Saturday Art for Kids, from 11am – 1pm offers a unique art experience for young artists. Contact the art center for specific information and pre-registration. Open studio opportunities in the Virginia Ross Education Studio are available to printmakers and ceramic artists. The Fall Foliage Festival Art Show application for the show to be held on October 13 and 14 is online and available to professional artists. Recently the show was voted one of the top three art events in Virginia by “Virginia Living” readers.
