The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of April, is featuring the artworks of Waynesboro born artist, Marsha Heatwole.
Working in her Lexington, Virginia studio, located beside an idyllic mountain stream, she uses the animals she encounters, especially her pets, as a never ending source of amusement and fascination. She enjoys interpreting the power and whimsy of these creatures by bringing strong abstract visual elements together with an understanding of their anatomy and behavior. Heatwole’s primary artistic concerns are line, composition, and color, often using sacred geometry.
She treats the viewer to a visual journey around and through the image. Living in rural Virginia and traveling to Africa have afforded her immeasurable opportunity to experience the power of seeing. Heatwole states, “My seeing, knowing, and imagination enable me to interpret the whimsy and integrity of the animals who choose me to paint them.”
An Opening Reception will be held April 2, 6:00-8:00 p.m. and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artist.
In the Upstairs Hallway Gallery, the Newcomers’ Social Club will exhibit works of art created by their members. The club provides opportunities for new arrivals in the Waynesboro and surrounding county areas to become acquainted with club members. The members regularly participate in breakfasts, themed social functions, art classes, and community service projects. The club encourages members to use their time and energies for worthy purposes that serve the community in civic, educational, recreational and cultural capacities.
The SVAC Member’s Gallery will feature Artist’s Choice which presents art center members’ interpretations of a variety of media with a range of creative expressions.
Come enjoy the gathering of folks seeking creative inspiration, camaraderie, and sharing of techniques through art activities and classes. GET LOOSE! Join the COLLAGE Workshop on April 7, 1:00 – 3:30 ($25). In this class we will work backwards! Using limited supplies, you will put them together in unexpected ways to create great 2D collaged artworks. It’ll make you THINK!
Shenandoah Valley Art Center offers, the ever popular Saturday Art for Kids, presenting a creative art experience for young artists from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. ($50 per 4 classes or $15 per class). Contact the art center for specific information and pre-registration for each class. Open studio opportunities in the Virginia Ross Education Studio are available to printmakers and ceramic artists.
