Shenandoah National Park selects Stace Carter for Artist-in-Residence Program

shen-national-parkShenandoah National Park announced this week that Charlottesville-based artist Stace Carter has been selected for the first of two residencies in this year’s Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program.

This year’s AIR program theme, and focus of the residency, is centered on the Find Your Park Campaign. During his residency, Mr. Carter will use his artistic talent and creativity to engage visitors in the form of documentary videos and public programs. “My work focuses on creating vibrant educational documentary films that capture the essence of learning experiences. I specifically try to convey the enthusiasm and personal connection my subjects have with their work and the impact of place on inspiration.”

The visiting public is invited to participate in “Digital Storytelling” with Stace Carter at 1:00 p.m., June 13 at the Byrd Visitor Center. Visitors to Shenandoah capture beautiful photos, videos, and even audio of their visit. But often the hundreds of pieces of media captured on phone or camera get lost or forgotten once the visit is over. This 1½ hour program provides a framework for how to approach, capture, and share the story of visitors’ experiences in memorable style, using whatever tools they have at hand. Mr. Stace will share real life examples of engaging digital storytelling, the software and tools available to create digital stories, resources for creating digital stories and much more!

More information about the Artist –in-Residence program can be found on the Park’s website at http://www.nps.gov/shen/supportyourpark/artist-in-residence.htm. Shenandoah’s Artist-in-Residence program is supported by a generous donation from the Shenandoah National Park Trust.
