Shenandoah Campaign focus of roundtable at Pamplin Park

Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier will welcome Jonathan Noyalas, Director of the McCormick Civil War Institute at Shenandoah University to speak at the Petersburg Civil War Roundtable on Dec. 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Park’s Education Center.

Noyalas’s presentation is titled “That Woman was Worth a Whole Brigade: Rebecca Wright, Tom Laws, and the Beginning of Sheridan’s 1864 Shenandoah Campaign.”

Noyalas is the author or editor of eleven books on Civil War-era history, including, Civil War Legacy in the Shenandoah: Remembrance, Reunion and Reconciliation. He is the author of more than 100 articles, essays, book chapters, and reviews which have appeared in a variety of scholarly and popular publications, including Civil War History, America’s Civil War, Civil War Times, Blue & Gray, Hallowed Ground, and Civil War News.

He is the recipient of numerous awards for his scholarship, teaching, and service, including Shenandoah University’s Young Career Alumni Achievement Award (October 2004) and most recently, the highest honor bestowed upon a professor at a private or public university or college in Virginia, the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia’s Outstanding Faculty Award (February 2016).

The mission of the Petersburg Civil War Roundtable is to serve as a community facilitator for the dissemination and discussion of historical topics related to the Civil War era. This period’s military, social, economic, and political historical relevance is clearly apparent in our present lives. The Roundtable seeks to provide a more thorough understanding of this era and to better inform citizens of today.

The Petersburg Civil War Roundtable (PCWRT) meets each month (except June, July, and August) at Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier’s Education Center from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm. Annual membership is $40.00. Individuals who are already members of Pamplin Historical Park can become members of PCWRT for $20.00. Non-members can attend for $5.00 each meeting. A limited time Roundtable lifetime membership is also available at $100.00.
