A single-vehicle accident on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park resulted in injuries to four individuals and a temporary shutdown on Monday.

Warren County Fire and Rescue responded to milepost 8 at 7:50 a.m. where they located a four-door sedan with significant damage.

Two occupants self-extricated prior to first responders arriving on site; they were treated on scene and transported by EMS to local hospitals.

Two additional patients remained trapped in the vehicle – one confined to the back seat due to injuries, and the driver, who was stuck under the dashboard. Firefighters were able to free both individuals and get them to waiting ambulances.

Due to the severity of the driver’s injuries, AirCare 4 responded and transported the driver to INOVA Fairfax hospital.

To ensure a safe landing zone for air medical transport, Skyline Drive at the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center was temporarily closed.

No additional information has been released.
