george-mason2Senior Erik Copes has decided to leave the George Mason men’s basketball program for personal reasons, announced head coach paul hewitt.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pounder has appeared in 90 games during his four-year career with the Green & Gold and earned the start in 48. He ranks fourth in all-time program history in blocks with 122 fueled by his freshman season when he recorded 51. His 51 blocks during the 2011-12 season ranks fifth in the all-time record book. This season he has seen action in four games having missed four due to an injury.

“I respect Erik’s decision” said Hewitt. “I understand he needs to devote more time to other matters in his life that are more important than basketball. We will continue to support Erik in the pursuit of his degree.”
