Despite extensive search efforts conducted in and along the Rivanna River Friday (Aug. 3), state and local swift water rescue teams were not able to locate a woman who was seen Thursday evening (Aug. 2) jumping from the Interstate 64 overpass.
Because of rising water levels due to the recent rains and dangerously fast currents, search efforts were suspended around 3 p.m. Friday.
Swift water rescue teams on scene Friday were from Albemarle and Rockingham Counties, Harrisonburg, and the Virginia State Police.
Crews will continue to assess water levels and risk factors throughout the weekend to determine when it is safe to resume operations.
