Virginia State Police troopers and search-and-rescue teams have been on the ground and made several water rescues overnight in Halifax County.

On Tuesday night, at approximately 11:53 p.m., both State Police and Halifax County deputies responded to flood waters along North Fork Church Road.

Rescuers located two vehicles in the flood waters. One driver was able to get out of his vehicle and walk to land. The second driver had to be rescued by teams on the ground.

Neither driver was injured.

This morning, at approximately 8:20 a.m., rescuers from a number of agencies responded to the 3000 block of Kingwoods Road after a vehicle went into flood waters at that location.

The two occupants were rescued from the roof of the vehicle with no injuries.

Halifax County continues to deal with flooding as a result of recent rains and has multiple road closures as a result.

The region is under a severe weather threat due to the potential for thunderstorms and high winds through 8 p.m. tonight. A flood watch is also in effect through 2 a.m. on Thursday.

In addition to State Police efforts, South Boston Police, Halifax County rescue crews and members of the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department also provided assistance to the community.
