Scoreless in Miami: Marlins break through in 13th, top Orioles, 1-0

lgo_mlb_baltimore_oriolesA two-out RBI single by Martin Prado broke a scoreless tie and lifted the Miami Marlins to a 1-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles Saturday night.

There was no shortage of opportunities for the two teams – who had a combined 19 at-bats with runners in scoring position. But the O’s were just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position, and Miami was 1-for-9, Prado’s game-winner.

Baltimore left 17 runners on base, and Miami left 14.

The Orioles wasted another spotless start from rookie Mike Wright, who notched the win in his MLB debut on Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels, putting in seven and a third scoreless innings in the 3-0 Baltimore victory.

On Saturday, Wright put up seven scoreless innings, giving up three hits while striking out four and walking three.

The fireworks from the O’s side came in the 12th inning when reliever Brian Matusz was ejected after umpires determined that he had a foreign substance on his right forearm.

Matusz is the second MLB pitcher this week ejected for using a foreign substance. Milwaukee reliever Will Smith is facing an eight-game suspension after his incident earlier in the week.
