Sanders digs at Clinton on healthcare: Flip-flop?

hillary bernie healthcareHillary Clinton is going after Bernie Sanders now that the upstart has emerged as the leader in the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire.

The Clinton camp has focused its attacks on Sanders’ healthcare plan. On Tuesday, Chelsea Clinton, stumping for her mother, said Sanders would dismantle Medicare and Medicaid, the jumping off point for the ridiculous statement being the senator’s long-time support for single-payer health insurance.

The Sanders campaign response was essentially, yeah, sure, throw us down into that there briar patch.

“It is time for the United States to join the rest of the industrialized world and provide health care as a right to every man, woman and child. A Medicare-for-all plan will save the average middle-class family $5,000 a year. Further, the Clinton campaign is wrong. Our plan will be implemented in every state in the Union regardless of who is governor.”

The campaign also responded by tweeting out a photo of Sanders and Clinton from 1993, at the height of the healthcare effort by the Bill Clinton presidential administration that was headed up by the then-First Lady.

In a statement to the media later Wednesday, the Sanders campaign noted that Hillary Clinton had once said it “undermined core Democratic values” and gives “aid and comfort” to the special interests and “their allies in the Republican Party” for Democrats to attack each other’s healthcare plans.

“Today, in another flip-flop, she’s doing exactly what she once decried,” the statement declared.
