Route 17 ramp to Interstate 66 closing June 5-13

Chris Graham

road-work-headerFrom June 5 to 13, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close the Route 17 (Winchester Road) southbound ramp to Interstate 66 eastbound to perform bridge maintenance at the Delaplane interchange (mile 23) in Fauquier County.

The work involves bridge-deck patching, preventive maintenance and application of a latex overlay and will be performed by VDOT contractor The Marksmen Company of Curtis Bay, Maryland. The Route 17 bridge is one of 19 high-volume structures being repaired under a $1,428,587 contract executed in spring 2015.

During the round-the-clock closure, which begins at 9 p.m. June 5 and will end by 5 a.m. June 13, a detour will be posted to direct motorists from Route 17 southbound to I-66 westbound exit 18 (Markham), where they will exit and turn left onto Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road), then left onto the ramp to I-66 eastbound.

Message boards will go up today along Route 17 southbound and on Route 50 (John Mosby Highway) to inform motorists of the closure.

During the same period, a VDOT interstate maintenance crew will take advantage of the closure to trim vegetation at the base of the ramp and along the I-66 eastbound left shoulder. Motorists should drive with caution past the work zone.

Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also on Facebook and the district’s Twitter account,@VaDOTCulp.
