shenandoah national parkOver the past 48 hours the southern part of the Rocky Mtn Fire received 1.7 inches of rain and the northern part 0.5 inches of rain. All containment lines of the fire were inactive with very little fire activity yesterday.

Fire acreage remains 10,326 acres and as of 6:00 p.m. April 28, containment is 90 percent.

Remaining crews will focus on hazard reduction and suppression repair along the closed sections of the Skyline Drive and Appalachian Trail in the park’s southern third. The goal is to open the closed sections as soon as safely possible.

The Appalachian Trail is closed from Blackrock Gap, mile 87.5, to Powell Gap, milepost 70. At 2:00 pm, the closure moves north to Doyles River Overlook, milepost 82.

The Skyline Drive is closed from Swift Run Gap, mile 65.5, to Black Rock Gap, mile 87.5.
