Tom Perriello is going to be the Democratic Party nominee in the Fifth District, but he’s still going to have to win the nomination in a primary.
Rob Tracinski confirmed on Monday that he will be a candidate for the party nomination in the Fifth.
Both Tracinski and Perriello had originally declared as candidates in the Fifth, then shifted their attention to the Sixth District with the rollout of new district maps earlier this year.
Virginia voters approved the new maps in an April 21 referendum, but then a 4-3 MAGA majority on the state Supreme Court threw out the election result.
“I entered this race at the very beginning running in the old Fith District, and I’m prepared to continue, because this is just one more example of the kind of thing I’m going to Congress to stop: political leaders like Trump trying to break literally every part of our system, including elections,” Tracinski said.
“This campaign has never been about political convenience,” Tracinski said. “It’s about restoring sanity, resistance to presidential abuse, and real congressional leadership. No matter where the district lines are, voters deserve someone who will stand up to the chaos.”
