Two Richmond men were sentenced to nearly two decades in prison for robbing two vape shops and holding the employees hostage with guns.
Koriyon Demantra Weaver, 19, pled guilty on Aug. 20 to two counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence. He was sentenced on March 19 to 18 years in prison.
Calvin Shawn Johnson, 43, pled guilty on Dec. 10 to robbery and using a firearm during a crime of violence. He was sentenced on March 12 to 19 years in prison.
According to court documents, on March 2, 2025, Weaver, Johnson and a juvenile entered a vape shop on Semmes Avenue, all armed and wearing masks and gloves. The three suspects struck two victims inside the store over the head with firearms and robbed the store of cash and merchandise.
One week later, on March 9, the trio robbed a vape shop on Hull Street Road. In this incident, they zip-tied three employees, held them at gunpoint on the ground and took the cash register and cell phones.
An investigation found that Weaver had participated in a prior armed robbery of the Semmes Avenue vape shop in February.
The two men and juvenile were taken into custody by Richmond police during a subsequent traffic stop.
The FBI’s Richmond field office and Richmond Police Department investigated the case.
