Richmond signs guard Jesse Pistokache for 2015 class

ur-spiders1Richmond men’s basketball has signed 6-3 guard Jesse Pistokache for the 2015 class. Pistokache comes to Richmond from Johnson Ferry Christian Academy (Marietta, Ga.), where he played for his senior year of high school. His hometown is Mission, Texas and he played for Sharyland HS in Texas during his freshman and junior seasons. He played his sophomore year at Blair Academy (Blairstown, N.J.).

“We are thrilled for Jesse to join our 2015 class,” head coach Chris Mooney said. “He is a talented guard that can score in a variety of ways, and he will bring tremendous energy to our program next year.”

Last season, Pistokache led Johnson Ferry with 23.1 points per game and a team-best 57.3 percent from three-point land. He also averaged 5.4 rebounds per game and 4.2 assists per contest. He was a team captain and played for former Atlanta Hawks first-round pick and former Duke standout Roshown McLeod at Johnson Ferry.

“I’ve known Jesse since the seventh grade,” McLeod said. “And he has always been one of the hardest-working guards in the gym. Last year for us, he had a great ability to make plays when the offense broke down, and he strikes a good balance between needing to score and getting his teammates involved. He has a very high basketball IQ, and Richmond fans will appreciate how hard he plays. I’ve always been very impressed with how well he balances his spirituality, sports and academics.”

Pistokache only played in nine games during his junior season back at Sharyland due to Texas transfer rules. However, in that stretch he earned a spot in the All-Valley All-Star game and was named First Team All-District. He played for the Mo Williams Elite AAU squad while in Texas. His freshman year at SHS, he earned Newcomer of the Year honors and was named First Team All-District.

He joins 6-3 guard Julius Johnson in the Spider freshman class next fall.
