Richmond | Police investigating two weekend homicide cases

Richmond Police are busy working two weekend homicide cases.

The first, reported at 6:48 a.m. Saturday on the 3400 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, took the life of Gilberto DeJesus, III, 33, of Richmond.

According to police, DeJesus was found inside a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injury yesterday.

The second was reported Sunday at 9:33 p.m., when officers were called to the 500 block of Hunt Avenue for the report of a person shot.

Officers arrived and located an adult female, Johnnita Russell, 34, of Richmond, inside of a residence suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about either of these homicide investigations is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
