richmond-squirrelsThe Richmond Flying Squirrels have announced that in appreciation of the tremendous support they have received from their fans during their run to the playoffs, and throughout their fifth season in Richmond, they have doubled the amount of fireworks they will launch during the final regular season fireworks extravaganza of the year on Saturday, August 30.

Following the team’s game against the Binghamton Mets at The Diamond, the team will salute the fans with what has been dubbed “MegaBlast.”  “MegaBlast” will be the largest fireworks show of the season, eclipsing their annual Independence Day and Opening Night shows.

“We are ridiculously fired up about the success of the season both on the field and off,” said Flying Squirrels’ VP/COO Todd “Parney” Parnell.  “And we want to give something special to the fans that make the Squirrels what they are.  ‘MegaBlast’ is going to be an awesome spectacle that will show the fans how much we appreciate them and also appropriately launch the team into the playoffs.”

Tickets are available for Saturday’s game, and can be purchased by calling (804) 359-3866 or by visiting either SquirrelsBaseball.com or the Squirrels ticket office at The Diamond.

With a, 5-4, win over the Altoona Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Monday night, the Squirrels clinched the second post-season berth in franchise history.  They presently hold a three-game division lead on the Akron RubberDucks.  The Squirrels will either host playoff games at The Diamond on Wednesday, September 3 and Thursday, September 4(second place scenario) or Friday, September 5, and if necessary, Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7 (first place scenario).  Ticket packages are presently available and can be purchased by calling (804) 359-3866.

Game two of the Squirrels’ four-game series with the Altoona Curve is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.  Richmond LHP Ty Blach (7-7, 3.40) will make the start against Bowie LHP Thomas Harlan (3-3, 3.24).  The Flying Squirrels Pregame Warmup will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sports Radio 910 and SportsRadio910.com.
