ur-spiders1Richmond men’s basketball will be competing in the 15th annual Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational, the tournament group announced today.

Held on November 26-27, 2015 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, this year’s field features the Spiders, West Virginia, San Diego State, California, Hawaii, Sam Houston State, Bethune-Cookman and Liberty.

Past champions of this prestigious early season tournament include Illinois (2014), UCLA (2013), Creighton (2012), UNLV (2011), Kansas (2010), Oklahoma State (2009), Kentucky (2008) and North Carolina (2007).

The Spiders will play four games in the Invitational – the first two at on-campus sites and the final two rounds at the Orleans Arena November 26-27. Richmond will be in a foursome to face West Virginia, Cal or San Diego State in Las Vegas.

Hosting more than 200 events each year, the Orleans Arena is located just west of the Las Vegas strip and was recently named the #1 mid-size arena in the USA by Venues Today magazine.

Richmond has had tremendous success in preseason tournaments winning last year’s Gotham Classic in Madison Square Garden, winning the Chicago Invitational Challenge in 2011 and the Orange Bowl Classic in 2010.

The Spiders return four of last year’s five starters along with reigning Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year ShawnDre’ Jones. Terry Allen returns as the Spiders’ leading rebounder (6.7) while also averaging 13.0 points per game. T.J. Cline shot a team-best 51.6 percent from the field and Jones led the team with 64 three-pointers made with 90 assists.

Tickets for the final rounds in Las Vegas are available at the Orleans Arena box office beginning on Friday, May 15th (1.888.234.2334 or 702.284.7777) and via the internet at www.orleansarena.com.  Fans can also contact the Richmond ticket office at 1-877-SPIDER-1.
