
Update: Sunday, 2:21 p.m. The suspect in a Saturday evening murder in Roanoke is in custody after a manhunt in Prince Edward County that ended peacefully Sunday afternoon.
Rayjaun A. Calloway, 24, was taken into custody without incident in the area of Route 460 and Sulpher Spring Road in Prince Edward County at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, according to a report from Virginia State Police.
Calloway had been the subject of a shelter-in-place order in Prince Edward County earlier in the day on Sunday.
Calloway is the suspect in the murder of his father, Israel Calloway, 55, of Roanoke.
This morning, at approximately 7:20 a.m., the younger Calloway was spotted by a Farmville Police officer in the area of Hixburg Road and Route 460. Calloway shot at the officer. The officer was not injured.
First report: Sunday, 11:52 a.m. Virginia State Police, the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office and Farmville Police are asking residents within a five-mile radius of Hixburg Road and Route 460 in western Prince Edward County to shelter in place.
Law enforcement is currently searching for Rayjuan A. Calloway, 24, who is a suspect in a murder in Roanoke reported on Saturday evening.
Calloway is also suspected of firing on a Farmville Police officer this morning in the area of Route 460 and Hixburg Road.
Residents in the area are advised to lock your doors, stay inside and report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
