Report: CM Punk granted early release by WWE?

Chris Graham

cmpunkPWInsider is reporting that the word from the locker room from this weekend’s WWE house shows is that CM Punk was granted an early release from his WWE contract on Friday.

Punk had said in interviews before he left WWE that he was under contract to the company until July. He left the company after last month’s Royal Rumble. No official word has been given on why he left. WWE has yet to publicly acknowledge his departure, and still has a profile for Punk on the WWE.com website.

WWE CEO Vince McMahon had reportedly been keen on trying to get Punk, one of the company’s top two or three marketable stars, to return to the company to at least work out his contract. Punk was said to have made it clear to WWE brass that he did not plan to re-sign in July.

PWInsider noted in its report that it had not been able to confirm the news of Punk’s release.
