Sixth District Congressman Ben Cline recently posted on Facebook in support of the SAVE Act. He claimed, without evidence, that a Virginia resident could vote without providing identification or proof of residence. He failed to mention important safeguards in Virginia’s election procedures. Two former election officers commented on his misleading statements.

The ultraconservative Heritage Foundation’s study of election fraud reported 36 cases in Virginia between 1982-2025 – less than one per year. Our safeguards worked, and those involved faced justice.

The only cases similar to Ben Cline’s scenario were attempts by two candidates to run for office outside their localities of residence.

Seven campaign workers falsified petitions to place candidates on the ballot. A court removed one candidate from the ballot without criminal charges. Two individuals falsified voter registrations. One person created a website listing a false election date.

Fourteen people conspired to steal absentee ballots, and to bribe voters.

Two people attempted to vote twice. Six convicted felons either voted or tried to register.

Heritage Foundation claims that another convicted felon falsified voting paperwork, but there are no court records.

Ben Cline pretends to favor limited government. But the SAVE Act would extend federal authority into elections, an area the U.S. Constitution reserves for the states. Mr. Cline wants us to disregard the Constitution based on false and misleading statements.

Ben Cline supports the most corrupt and lawless president in our history.  We should not allow him to trick us into expanding the power of this horrible chief executive.
