Quilt store rolls out fresh inventory

A hip new inventory is being rolled out at Rachel’s Quilt Patch in Staunton, Virginia during October, but customers will still feel like they’ve walked into Rachel Brown and Kay Shirey’s comfy home to talk about fabric and yarn and crafting techniques.

The beloved retail store in the beautifully restored historic freight railroad portion of the Staunton Station has been an integral part of Downtown Staunton since 1997. As the mother and daughter team reflects on fifteen years of business, the spirit of “what’s old is new again” permeates inventory upgrades and events to celebrate the quilting community that has made Rachel’s a friendly destination and gathering place. “We’ve revamped our stock with some beautiful, stylish choices and want to celebrate the great projects and friendships that develop in our store. The sense of community we experience here means a lot to us. We want to share that with others.”

Julie Markowitz, Executive Director of the Staunton Downtown Development Association talks about Rachel’s role as a cornerstone of downtown retail:  “Rachel’s has been a destination for regional quilters for 15 years.  They have organized the quilting community through events, classes and always offer their expertise in the warm and friendly atmosphere of their charming store.  Rachel and Kay have done a great job of making their business a home away from home where their customers want to stay, sew and spend leisure time.”

On Saturday, October 27 from 9am to 5pm, Rachel’s will be showcasing their new inventory and inviting the community to join them for coffee, donuts and special deals. The Bakers Dozen Donuts will be on site with their mobile donut truck and Lucas Coffees, which Rachel’s is now selling in the store, will be available for tasting. Customers will also find deep discounts all day on Christmas fabrics, batting and additional items around the store plus enjoy live music between 10am-1pm.

In addition to eliciting comments from customers like Susan Phend who says “Love Rachel’s! It’s a wonderful place to be nurtured and to be creative!” Rachel’s Quilt Patch offers classes and club gatherings and encourages support of local children’s causes by facilitating gifts of quilts and hand-made pillowcases for children in need through charities like Camp Dragonfly and Hospice of the Shenandoah.
