Prince William County: Woman’s vehicle breaks down, struck by car walking to get gas

A woman walking on Interstate 95 in Prince William County was killed when a vehicle struck her, according to Virginia State Police.

The fatal pedestrian crash killed Karen S. Rosa Hernandez, of Dumfries.

A disabled vehicle registered to Hernandez was located just south of the crash scene in the express lanes.

A gas can was located nearby the accident scene.

The crash occurred this morning at 4:56 a.m. near the 152-mile marker.

According to police, a Toyota Corolla was heading northbound on Interstate 95 when it was unable to avoid Hernandez who allegedly was in the travel lanes. The name of the driver of the Toyota has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
