A new poll from Christopher Newport University has Joe Biden in the lead in the Democratic Party presidential race in Virginia on the eve of the state’s March 3 primary.

Biden is at 22 percent in the poll, with Bernie Sanders in second at 17 percent, and Mike Bloomberg a distant third at 13 percent.

Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren were each at 8 percent. Amy Klobuchar, whose campaign has been all over TV in recent days, was at 5 percent in the poll.

The poll also shows President Trump with quite the uphill climb with respect to the general election in November in Virginia. The survey has Trump at 38 percent against a generic “someone else,” with the straw candidate registering at 59 percent.

Virginia has voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in each of the last three election cycles.
