Virginia Democrats blast Bill Stanley healthcare tour: State Sen. Bill Stanley will embark on a healthcare tour in Southside Virginia in an attempt to cover up the fact that he has done more than anyone in the General Assembly to prevent hundreds of thousands of Virginians from getting the quality healthcare they need and deserve.
While nearly 19,000 Virginians in Stanley’s district alone would receive health insurance if Virginia closes the coverage gap, Senator Stanley put partisan politics ahead of the well-being of his constituents this session when he introduced an amendment moving the General Assembly further away from coming to an agreement on how to cover 400,000 uninsured Virginians.
Senator Stanley has made it clear he has no intention of closing the coverage gap, and this healthcare tour is merely a charade to obscure the fact that Senator Stanely cares more about partisan ideology than the health and economic well-being of the Commonwealth.
Democratic Party of Virginia Executive Director Robert Dempsey stated, “Virginians won’t stand for Senator Stanley’s political charade that leaves the health of 400,000 uninsured Virginians in the balance. It is clear that Senator Stanley has no intention of closing the coverage gap–in fact, he has done more than anyone in the General Assembly to make sure hundreds of thousands of Virginians remain without healthcare.”
Warner campaign blasts new Ed Gillespie TV ad: Ed Gillespie today became the first candidate to release a negative television ad. The ad repeats a misleading claim in an attempt to distract Virginians from his background as a million dollar DC lobbyist working for companies like Enron.
Gillespie is one of the chief architects of Washington gridlock, once calling himself a “partisan warrior,” and helping to found big-money Super PAC American Crossroads which spent over $170 million in negative ads in the 2012 election cycle alone. He has spent his career as either a partisan operative or a multi-million dollar DC lobbyist.
“In an attempt to distract voters from his career as a Washington lobbyist and a self-described partisan warrior Ed Gillespie has resorted to a negative attack that independent analysts have called misleading. Senator Warner is reflexively bipartisan and works across party lines everyday to find commonsense solutions for Virginians. His bipartisan approach is why former Republican Senator John Warner and 16 former GOP elected officials from Virginia have endorsed his re-election. Ed Gillespie’s deliberately misleading attack is politics as usual.” said David Turner a spokesman for the campaign.
