policecar3The investigation into an apparent murder-suicide reported Wednesday night in Staunton now moves into Augusta County. A joint statement from the Staunton Police Department and Augusta County Sheriff’s Office released Friday confirmed that it has been determined that the shooting death of Jasmine C. Hayslett, 19, occurred in the 2300 block of Stuarts Draft Highway in Augusta County.

Hayslett was found shot dead in a vehicle parked on Cherry Hill Drive Wednesday night. As Staunton Police were investigating a report logged at 8:17 p.m. that night related to a possible body in a vehicle at the location, they heard a gunshot from a residence nearby.

Upon investigating that scene, police discovered the body of Zachary A. Ham, 19.

Ham died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to police, indications are that the incidents are related, and the PD said Thursday that it is not seeking other suspects in the murder of Hayslett.

The PD and the sheriff’s office said Friday in their joint statement that the investigation into the death of Hayslett has been turned over to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office for follow-up.
