Three officers received injuries after being shot at by a man while serving warrants and a protective order in Pittsylvania County Wednesday night.
James Andru Lehnerd, 36, began firing at the four officers, and three of the four on the scene were injured. One investigator injured in the incident was released from the Gretna emergency room on Thursday. No additional information is available on the other two officers who were injured.
Additional law enforcement officers arrived after the report of injuries. After countless attempts to contact the suspect were unsuccessful, a special weapons and tactics team made entry into the residence in the 100 block of Blue Jay Lane in the Pittsville community.
Deputies arrived at the residence at 5:36 p.m. to serve warrants for brandishing a firearm, trespassing and to serve a temporary protective order. Lehnerd was taken into custody without further incident around 11 p.m.
Lehnerd has been charged with trespassing, brandishing a firearm and attempted capital murder of law enforcement.
He is being held without bond.
A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23 in the Pittsylvania County General District Court.
Additional charges are pending.
