Pittsylvania County: Pedestrian struck by two vehicles on U.S. 29 dead

A senior citizen standing in the road on U.S. 29 in Pittsylvania County was struck by two vehicles and killed on Sunday.

Virginia State Police is investigating the crash which occurred two tenths of a mile south of Route 946 at 5:45 p.m.

Carlos Manuel Vientos, 79, of Danville, was identified as the pedestrian. Vientos died at the scene.

A Honda CRV was traveling south on U.S. 29, when the vehicle struck Vientos, who was allegedly standing in the roadway. The pedestrian was then struck by a driver in a Subaru.

The driver of the Honda was not injured. No information was provided on the driver of the Subaru.

No charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
