It’s only one Google search, but at 10:43 p.m. Eastern Thursday night, or about 20 minutes before the end of Miami’s 30-6 dismantling of Virginia Tech, someone typed in the phrase frank beamer hot seat into the search engine and clicked through to AugustaFreePress.com.
Which made me do a double-take, because I don’t remember writing those words anytime recently. (Turns out that it was a 2012 column about how Beamer and UVA coach Mike London were feeling heat midway through that season, which ended up being forgettable for both.)
The loss to Miami pushes the Hokies to 4-4 overall, 1-3 in the ACC, and 2-3 at home. Dating back to that 2012 season that had me musing on hot seats, Tech is just 19-15 overall and 10-10 in the ACC.
But, hot seat? I’ll stick with what I said back in that 2012 column that came up in one fan’s Google search.
After 26 years (now 28), Beamer has earned for himself the right to go 3-3 at some point in a season without the village idiots mobilizing the moving trucks.
Now, If I was Scot Loeffler …
