New Dominion Bookshop in Charlottesville will host a book reading and signing with novelist Scott Walker on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Walker will be reading from his debut novel, Caminos. This event is free to attend.
About the Book: Caminos tells the story of Spanish immigrant Mercedes González Conde and her daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandson. They live and love, coping with and compounding their inner troubles as issues of abandonment, attachment, identity, and rootlessness circle around and through them. The novel is set in the northwest Spanish province of Asturias and the eastern United States—primarily West Virginia and Ohio—with scenes in Mexico, Canada, Prague, and Berlin. Caminos is based on the story of author Scott Walker’s great-grandparents—who emigrated to the US from northwest Spain in the early twentieth century—and his journey to Asturias searching for his long-lost relatives there.
About the Author: Born on a US Air Force Base in Michigan’s upper peninsula, Walker grew up in Huntington, West Virginia. After graduating from Marshall University, Scott moved around the eastern US for a dozen years before relocating to Europe. During his years in the US, he attended graduate school in Charlottesville, taught US history at a private high school in Louisiana’s Cajun country, and lived in northern Virginia, New Orleans, and southwest Florida while working as an editor for Bulletin Intelligence. In 2008, Walker moved to Prague, thinking he would stay for a year or two. Two years became four, four became eight, and eight has become ten. Prague led to Berlin, and Berlin to Asturias—on the northwest coast of Spain—where he currently lives. Caminos is his first novel.
