AEW women’s contender Skye Blue lost by stoppage on Saturday’s AEW “Collision” after injuring her ankle.
Blue had just taken a crossbody from former AEW world champ Hikaru Shida from the ring apron to the floor, and it appears that her right foot got caught under her as she fell back.
Referee Stephon Smith jumped down from the ring almost instantaneously to check on her, called for the ringside medical and training staff, and as the show went to a picture-in-picture commercial break, eventually called for the stoppage.
Tony Khan tweeted during the show that Blue was being evaluated, but there hasn’t been an update on her condition since.
Quick hits
The Patriarchy (Christian Cage, Killswitch and Nick Wayne) won the vacant unified trios championships with a win over The Bang Bang Gang (Juice Robinson and The Gunns) in the main event. The trios titles are one of those that could easily go in our current way too many titles environment.
Hologram won his AEW debut match in an overly choreographed match with Gringo Loco. Khan is said to have spent considerable time in planning the rollout of Hologram, former AAA luchador Aramis. That’s today’s reminder of why Tony Khan needs to be nowhere near a book.
Deonna Purrazzo won a lumberjack match with Thunder Rosa. Good execution, and good finish, with Taya Valkyrie providing the foreign object for the win, and then celebrating with Purrazzo afterward. We have something brewing here.
Ray Fenix defeated Tony Nese, and Roderick Strong defeated Tomohiro Ishii, both predictable finishes, but both entertaining matches. How about building toward matches like these? Just a thought.
