Northam sends delegation to reaffirm Virginia commitment to adapting to climate change

Secretary of Natural Resources Matthew J. Strickler will lead a delegation representing the Commonwealth of Virginia at the Global Climate Action Summit to reaffirm Governor Northam’s commitment to combating climate change and sea level rise.

The Virginia delegation will join government, business and community leaders from around the world in reviewing progress towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making additional commitments to slow climate change and its impacts.

Governor Northam said, “Virginia is among the states most vulnerable to the impacts of a warming climate. Sea level rise and coastal flooding, more frequent and severe weather events, drought and increased heat are all threats to the quality of life and economic success of all Virginians. For that reason, Virginia I’ve sent a delegation to convey Virginia’s intention to bolster our commitments to reduce climate pollution and limit the impacts of climate change.”

Secretary Strickler said, “I am pleased to lead a delegation to the Global Climate Action Summit to tell our partners across the world that Virginia will continue to be an active player in the effort to combat global warming, grow the clean energy economy, and create a safe, healthy and economically resilient future for the Commonwealth.”
