Norfolk Police investigating Monday shooting that killed 66-year-old man

A 66-year-old man is dead after he was shot on Monday, according to the Norfolk Police Department.

James E. Fortson Jr., 66, of Norfolk, died as a result of his injuries.

Police responded to a call in the 1300 block of Hanson Avenue just before noon for the report of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found Fortson suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

He was transported to the hospital for treatment but later died.

Detectives are continuing to investigate this homicide. No further details are available at this time.
