New Market Rebels J.D. Waite named VBL D-BAT Player of the Week

JD Waite-New Market RebelsNew Market Rebels left-handed pitcher and center fielder J.D. Waite, a junior from Lander University, is the Valley Baseball League D-BAT Player of the Week for the preceding week’s games from July 5-July 11.

With his July 8 win against the Front Royal Cardinals, Waite is now 4-0 on the season. While allowing 3 hits in seven innings, Waite held the Cardinals scoreless, striking out four and walking one with a superlative defense behind him.

Offensively last week, Waite was 4-7, with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI and 2 walks, helping the team to wins over Woodstock and Covington. His season average is a team-high .333.

This season, Waite has pitched 36.2 innings, the most of any pitcher in the league. His 1.96 ERA ranks seventh overall in the league.

Waite, from Summerville, N.C.  is the fifth recipient this season, selected from candidates nominated by coaches and VBL media relations staff. He joins Strasburg Express first baseman Ryan Flick, Front Royal RHP Indalecio Romo, Charlottesville Tom Sox outfielder Kevin Conway and Harrisonburg outfielder Shane Billings.

The next D-Bat Player of the Week will be announced on July 20 and be selected from action in games fromMonday, July 13 through Saturday, July 18.
