A tractor trailer accident on Interstate 64 Friday in New Kent County killed both people in the vehicle.

Eric Latrell Upshaw, 36, of Walkerton, and his passenger, Randall Benton Cooper, 40, of Glen Allen, both died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police.

The Kenworth tractor trailer was traveling on I-64 westbound when a tire blew causing the truck to run off the road and strike a tree. The vehicle then caught fire.

The accident occurred at 11:27 a.m. at the 206-mile marker, according to a report from VSP.

The crash remains under investigation.
