New Dominion Bookshop celebrates the Launch of Inman Majors novel Penelope Lemon

Chris Graham

Inman MajorsNew Dominion Bookshop will host a book launch party celebrating the release of the Inman Majors novel Penelope Lemon: Game On! on Wednesday, September 19, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Common House (206 West Market Street, Charlottesville). Refreshments will be provided. This event is free to attend.

About the Book: In Penelope Lemon: Game On! (LSU Press/Yellow Shoe Fiction), Inman Majors takes a cockeyed look at the challenges of divorced life for a woman in small-town America. Penelope Lemon is a recent divorcée, a closet Metallica fan, and an accidental subversive, overturning all the expectations of suburban motherhood just by being true to herself. After ending her marriage with James, a woodsy intellectual who favors silky kimonos too short for his knobby knees, Penelope finds herself, at forty, living with her randy mother in her childhood home. Broke and desperate for work, she’s waitressing at a frontier-themed restaurant, trying to figure out online dating, and looking for new friends who aren’t coupled up. Enter Missy, wild-woman extraordinaire, who takes Penelope under her wing—Lucille Ball style—and shows her the ins and outs of having fun when the kids are out of the house. Penelope Lemon: Game On! is a literary romp with serious heart. Majors gives us a modern-day heroine with relatable challenges of being a single parent in the digital age. Penelope is a modern-day heroine to root for.

About the Author: A native of Tennessee, Inman Majors now makes his home in Charlottesville, Virginia. He is the author of four previous novels—Love’s Winning PlaysThe Millionaires, and Wonderdog—hailed for their wit and southern style. He is a professor of English at James Madison University.
