New children’s program debuts this week in Waynesboro

Chris Graham

The Waynesboro Heritage Foundation and the Wayne Theatre Alliance have joined together to present a monthly children’s program at the Heritage Museum featuring members of the Shenandoah Storytellers Guild.
The Friday, Aug. 21, program will feature Ian Henry. A native Australian, Henry has lived in Virginia for 22 years. His stories focus on growing up and living in Sydney and the Australian Outback as well as using tales from Australian Aborigine Dreamtime tradition, and folklore from the Indian subcontinent. Besides being a storyteller who has appeared widely in the United States, Henry is a beekeeper, gardener, town crier for fun and an accountant by profession.

The August program will begin at 6:15 p.m. at the Heritage Museum at 420 W. Main St. in Downtown Waynesboro. The presentation will last about 45 minutes and will be free. Funding for the Storytellers program is from a grant from the Central Blue Ridge Community Foundation.

Immediately following the Storytellers program, WTA invites audiences to attend the “Fanfare for the Wayne”/River City Radio Hour in front of the Wayne Theatre at 521 W. Main St. Lawn chairs are encouraged since seating will be limited.
